Good condition - the blue cyan color in the picture comes from my scanner and is not on the item. The item polishes to a shiny silver color with a black patina in the low places. - The screw post is slightly bent. Across the top on the word Intellectual it looks like a shadow but that is actually a discoloration.

The badge is a silver color and the fastener is a brass color.

Measures approximately 15 mm diameter. The E in Pioneers is about 1 mm high. The entire word of Pioneers is about 9 mm wide.

In the early 1920's the Y had Comrades for boys age 15 to 17 and Pioneers for age 12 to 14. In the late 1920's they had revamped the program and dropped the Comrades name usage.
From the late 1920's the Purpose of A Pioneer: "
To follow the trail blazed by the Great Pioneer in a life of service and of growth in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.
"
For Boys ages 9 to 12 is was the Y-Friendly Indians.
Currenlty the Y-Guides, Trailblazers, or Adventure Guides program were formerly the Indian Guides and Indian Princesses.
