FILLMORE Era SIGNED Blue Cheer at Chicago's Electric Theater June 1968 HandbillSIGNED BY COUNTRY JOE McDONALD!
NOT A REPRODUCTION!
Near Mint. 8.5 x 11 Handbill by artist Mark Twain Behrens advertising Blue Cheer with coming attraction Country Joe and The Fish. Blue Cheer was one of the very first cranked-up, fuzz-guitar-driven psychedelic rock power-trios who had the hit “Summertime Blues.” Country Joe McDonald was famous for his Vietnam War protest song “Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die Rag,” which became an anthem of the times and was preserved in the movie “Woodstock.” From June, 1968, just two months before the now-historic 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention began, this concert was held at Chicago’s premier rock palace of the day, Aaron Russo’s Electric Theatre (also referred to as the Kinetic Playground). Russo was Bette Midler’s manager after this period, and later a film maker of some note (“Wise Guys,” “Trading Places” (starring Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd) and “The Rose.”). And in 2004 he was the Libertarian Party candidate for President of the United States. Artist Mark Twain Behrens later moved to the West Coast where he continued to do artwork for rock concerts.
ORIGINAL--NOT A REPRODUCTION. Printed black on a light blue stock.
These have been in my possession since the 1968 concert, which I attended, and they have been stored flat for more than 40 years. Country Joe McDonald and I corresponded a few years ago and he signed a few flyers for me, which I am now pleased to offer for sale. (Flyer shown may not be the actual one.)
Near Mint. Absolutely clean. Sharp corners, no creases, wrinkles, or tears. From a smoke-free environment. Will combine shipping.
